Local TipsThe riptide here is often strong, it's actually dangerous to go into the water. Don't go in past your knees unless you know what you are doing.

DescriptionThis trail goes straight down a sheer cliff from the overlook parking area, it's not far, only about a half to 3/4 mile. It's a good hike, and a good run if you are into technical terrain. From a hiking perspective, it's about 15 minutes down and 20 minutes up, my seven year old was able to handle without too much trouble. From a running perspective, I did the run up and back down, and it's a little short, but it's enough uphill to get a serious workout, and if you enjoy a technical trail, you will not be disappointed. You'll be rewarded with a beautiful black sand beach at the bottom for your efforts.

Directions : Follow 270 past Hawi, pass the turn off to the KeoKea Beach park, literally, keep going straight to the end of the highway. Where the road ends, there's room for about 15 cars at the parking field for the overlook. Parking is free. You'll be greeted with an awesome vista (it's actually a better picture from 1/4 way down the trail). Make sure you carry in water, there are no facilities or bathroom or anything at either the top or the bottom.
