DescriptionThe Coastal Trail is known by both locals and visitors for its fantastic scenery and wildlife. Starting in downtown Anchorage, this 10+ mi (one-way) wooded trail hugs Cook Inlet. Moose and bears can sometimes be spotted near the trail. In the winter, the trail is groomed for skiing. The trail is mostly paved with a few sections of packed gravel. There are no mile markers for the first mile or so, then the trail is marked every 1/2 mile. The trail skirts the airport and there are some steep grades in the later miles.
