DescriptionIf you like running on the beach, this might be your thing. Jones beach gets "super crowded" in the summer, but there's a great way to get in that long run on the beach (on the sand) despite the crowds! Here's what you have to do, park as close to field 6 as you can ( I placed the marker on the map where field 6 is) Field 6 generally fills up by 9 am on the weekends, but you can always park at field 4 (which is closer to the circle) and walk to field 6. From field 6 head east down the beach. (away from the tower). Once you pass the final swimming area, the people quickly disappear. You can run on the sand for about 3 miles (each way) before you hit the next parking field at Tobay beach park (Town residents only allowed to park there). Check the tide tables to plan your run, if you go at low tide the sand surface near the water is firm enough for me to be able to run at tempo pace. At high tide, the sand is a lot softer and is more of a slow run pace surface. There are a few of the "clothing optional" crowd once you get in the deserted area between Jones Beach and Tobay. They keep to themselves and never bother me, but I wouldn't bring a kid on this run.

Another option is the boardwalk, The boardwalk runs from field 6 west to field 11?. It still has some damage post sandy, but is another option for running and is open to bikes in the off season as well. The total boardwalk distance is maybe 3 miles each way the other direction.

Parking at Jones beach is about 8-10 dollars per car, if you don't have a season pass (about $50). Pay at the toll booth as you enter on the highway, and then park where ever you want. They don't charge in the evenings (but I'm not sure what time exactly)
