DescriptionFS 222 is a fantastic location for long runs through the forest. This forest service road is about 7 miles long, but it intersects with several other forest service roads enroute, giving you options for many more miles. The run is a long, slight uphill on the way out for the first 2.5 miles (at 7500 ft., slightness feels more severe!). You'll intersect with FS 518 on your left at about 2.5 miles; stay right to remain on FS 222. At about 7 miles you'll intersect w/FS 171; going left on 171 will give you about 4 more miles, going right gives you 10+. Watch for cattle, they are free ranging at many times of the year. This area is also popular for camping & hunting. Wear bright colors in the fall & keep your eyes open for elk & deer, especially in the mornings. A beautiful run in the fall when the aspens are golden.

  • I love 222. Smooth and low traffic. I agree to watch for cattle! It is one of my "neighborhood" go-to's for biking and running ( by Elevated Trail on 2013-12-30 )
