DescriptionThe Mesa Trail starting from the historic Chautauqua Park is the iconic trail in Boulder and for several very good reasons. Beautiful Chautauqua Park sits nestled just under the majestic Flatirons abruptly jutting up from the earth, and just a mile up the hill from Downtown Boulder. There are a variety of trails that lead up through the meadow, which bring immediate rewards of the views below.

The Mesa Trail is 6.5 miles long heading south from Chautauqua out to the South Mesa Trail trailhead near Eldorado Springs. The trail mostly rolls with relatively little elevation gain which makes it easy to enjoy for visitors and locals alike. The trail is mostly smooth with sections of sharper rock and tree roots from time to time and varies from shade from the pines to open vistas of the valleys below.

There are many trails that join with the Mesa Trail along the way, connecting the valley below or leading up to the tallest peaks along the front range, Green Mountain, Bear Peak and South Boulder Peak. So no matter your mood there is something for everyone.

  • Amazing network of trails! Something for everyone. Love that it has an off-leash & on-leash zone. ( by Tracy on 2013-09-03 )
