DescriptionThe Greenway is a multi-use surfaced trail along an old railway line along the Clew Bay coast between Achill Island and Westport and inland from Westport to Castlebar and onwards to the village of Turlough (National Museum of Ireland). The section between Newport and Mulranny is particularly scenic, running through farland along the foothills of the Nephin Mountains. The route is mostly flat, and level, though the occassional cattle grids which make workouts a little bit difficult. There are a few road crossings, but these are mainly close to the towns. Distances = Westport - Newport : 12.5km; Newport - Mulranny: 18km; Mulranny - Achill: 13km. The Reins Wood to Turlough Villiage section via Castlebar is 16lm.
