Middle Fork Trail

From You7167.81 Mi
Local TipsGorgeous waterfall and great swimming opportunities. The steepest climb is in the first mile and a half, after which the trail mellows and is great for a run.

DescriptionA Lander Area classic, the Middle Fork Trail follows the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River (pronounced "puh-poe-juh") upstream from Sinks Canyon. Approximately a mile and a half in, you can take a short detour to view ( or slide off of, swim below) the Popo Agie Falls. A popular destination in the summer and winter, the falls often freeze into a beautiful display of blue ice in the winter. The Middle Fork Trail itself continues on for another 10 miles or so, going deeper into the Wind River Range and offering opportunities to connect with many other trails. You can bike in approximately 5 miles before hitting the Wilderness boundary, after which you must turn around or take a left to head over the bridge and up to Worthen Meadows.
