DescriptionA 9 mile paved trail that follows the Guadalupe River in San Jose, passing through downtown areas, the airport and all the way to San Francisco Bay, connecting small parks and gardens along the way. It's like "Choose Your Own Adventure" - there are so many 100m-200m forks that ultimately end up in the same place and maintain line of sight. If it feels sketchy, don't go that way. (You may encounter a few homeless hangouts depending on the split you take or which side of the river you choose). Signs are easy to determine whether you're on the path. There are maps, water, and restrooms at the parks along the path. In some of the revitalized areas there are devices that you can sync to your phone for a self-guided tour and history of the area.

  • A good way to go is to park in Alviso [which itself is a neat place] and ride/run south towards downtown San Jose. You ride/run right past the San Jose Airport and one can stop to watch planes take off and land. The trail isn't the most scenic, but it's ok. You may be fighting the wind a bit coming back.
