DescriptionThe Ron Coleman Trail at Franklin Mountain State Park is more of a hiking trail than for running. You can run part of the trail, but it is very technical and you will likely have to do a little climbing. At approximately .5 mile into the trail, you will reach Smugglers Pass which you'll get a nice view of El Paso and the Army installation of Fort Bliss. You can then head north on the trail (follow the blue paint marks on the rocks) for about 1.75 miles and you'll reach The Window. The Window is a big hole in the rock. You can get in a good 4.5 mile hike out and back from the trailhead to the window.

You can also get in a good 4-5 mile run at altitude (4500 ft) on McKelligon Canyon Rd, which is the road that takes you up to the Ron Coleman Trail. McKelligon Canyon is safe to run and you'll see many walkers or runners on it. The view while running on McKelligon Canyon Rd is spectacular.
