DescriptionMule Hill and San Pasqual Valley make up approximately 10 miles of the eventual 70 mile Coast to Crest Trail. These trail segments run through the valley, from the I-15 to Bandy Canyon, passing along the City of San Diego's San Pasqual Agricultural Preserve & Raptor Ridge. Trail is popular on weekends and afternoons. Relatively flat and family friendly at this starting point; gets hillier as the trail runs east.

The pin is dropped at the Sikes Adobe Staging Area (same spot as the eastern terminus of the North Shore Lake Hodges segment of C to C), named as such because of the presence of the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead, one of the oldest structures in San Diego County). You'll also pass Mule Hill Battlefield along the trail before passing into the San Pasqual Valley.

You can also access this segment of the Coast to Crest Trail at 3 other staging areas east of where the pin is dropped for this entry, if you'd like to explore more eastern sections of this trail:
(1) Old Coach North Staging Area: take the I-15 freeway and exit at West Bernardo/Pomerado Road. Go east then turn left at the signal light at Highland Valley Rd. Drive about 2.3 miles to the Old Coach North Trail Staging Area on the right. Take the link trail east to cross Highland Valley Road and reach the Coast to Crest Trail; (2) for Ysabel Creek Staging Area, follow directions in #2 above, but continue up Highland Valley Road, then turn left at Bandy Canyon Road to Ysabel Creek Road. Trailhead is on the corner on the left; (3) for San Pasqual Staging Area at the east end of the trail, see (1) above, but continue past Sunset Drive, then turn right at San Pasqual Valley Road. At intersection with Hwy 78, turn right and continue 2.75 miles past the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. After the bridge turn right at Bandy Canyon Road. Turn right into a dirt lot and follow signs for the San Pasqual Staging Area.
