DescriptionThis is an easy/intermediate paved/trail mix 4.5-mile out-and-back that takes you through a residential neighborhood, past a golf course and horse-riding academy, then loops through the woods on a bridle path past a brook and reservoir. Intermediate only because California Road has no sidewalks most of the way, and the bridle path can be rocky/rooty. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/517995354
I start about where New Rochelle Road intersects the Cross County Parkway and hang a right onto California Road. There is a 19th-century stone schoolhouse to your right. One mile in, you hit the Siwanoy Country Club golf course (look for balls on your way back). At mile 1.5, there is the horse academy. At mile 1.75, you will see a Twin Lakes sign, and here is where you can enter the bridle path to your right. At mile 2, you'll be about at the top of the loop and start to curve back down. There are several paths, but the park is small, and you'll always know which way you're going because there's a highway nearby. At mile 2.25, you'll see a brook to your left, and depending which way you go, you'll pass the reservoir on your left at about mile 2.75. Mile 3 and you're back out on California Road and headed back down to where you started.
