DescriptionFor a flat, fast, runner-friendly 10 mile course with almost no road crossings, try the three-lake loop in Minneapolis. You can add more mileage by adding loops around any of the three lakes, but a basic circuit will net you just under 10 miles (about 9.6 miles). Lake Harriet loop is 2.8 miles, the connecting path to Lake Calhoun is 0.4 miles, Lake Calhoun is 3.1 miles, connecting path (under the bridge) to Lake of the Isles is just over 0.1 miles, and Lake of the Isles loop is about 2.6 miles. Try running them as a double-figure-8 starting at Lake Harriet, and you'll get nearly 10 miles. Note: If you are seeking soft trails, this run isn't ideal, but you can run alongside the paved path on the grass and dirt for more than two-thirds of the distance (run clockwise around each lake). Hint: Find a "Minneapolis Trails Map" at local running stores (see images) - in this case, "Trails" means paved paths designated for pedestrians and cyclists.

  • From out of town and read about this on localeikki. Did the whole chain (all three lakes). Weather was perfect at 7:30 am in June. I would do it again, even though it was a $30 taxi ride from hotel. ( by BoiseCasualRunner on 2014-06-16 )
